On 10 November 2007 I signed up Slicehost, a VPS provider, they were very hot at the time I had to sign up a reservation and waited for a while before I was given my slice.
Today I terminated the service, I enjoyed 31 months of good service, I don’t need them now.
New member to the fleet, it’s a HP netbook
It’s running Windows 7 Starter Edition, with only 1G RAM, it’s really pretty slow.
After setting it up I then killed the Vista that came with this Toshiba M600 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 in it. The usual steps after installing ubuntu are (1) software update (2) install flash (3) install Chrome browser (4) install Java. However Java 6 have been removed from the Multiverse section of the Ubuntu archive, so I had to use terminal to do this.
sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre
The above didn’t finish well in terminal I had to run Update Manager to complete the configuration of Java 6.
It was just more than 2 years ago that I started learning Ubuntu and it was 6.06.
I spent nearly the entire afternoon upgrading to 9.10 via internet
It was done without a glitch.
Ubuntu 9.04 is the latest available since 26 April. I have just tried this at home.
The installer is little prettier and the default font looks a lot better than before. The best news to me is the native support of wireless broadband.
First you add a new connection below then edit it.
then you’ll have to amend the APN, don’t forget to check the box ‘connect automatically’.
You could also follow the wizard below and select from the list of providers available which should pop out by the time you plug in your USB modem.
If you are like me who subscribed to 3reedom then you’ll be on your own and don’t expect any technical support from them.
I recently went to their shop to ask for help they just keep asking me to dial their customer hotline. A simple quiz below can you tell what number to press to reach their customer service?
I said I couldn’t find any from their hotline operation guide above then he gave me a string of numbers.

In fact # is for non-customer so I wouldn't have thought about trying that route. 1 - # - 5 - 8 would take you to human voice, the guide above is wrong because there is no such thing as 'technical support' from the voice I hear. My conclusion is that if you are existing customers they simply don't care.]
