February is ending

February 27, 2009

This month as expected I haven’t done a lot, just 31.1k total.

This week I did walk + jog a few times. I could manage 30-40% of jogging time that’s about what I could do at the moment. At this speed, if I could sustain the distance, I could do a 10k run in 85 minutes. I doubt I could sustain it but I’ll try one day.

The next concern would be temperature as summer is approaching. I guess I wouldn’t be running too many days during the week instead I may try swimming for a day or two. That could help slimming down my upper body and improve my BMI a bit which would help running.

Max Heart Rate?

February 19, 2009

How fast can I beat?

From here my MHR should be around 170. Professionals here suggest that my rate should be 180. Traditional wisdom, for men, maximum heart rate should be 220 minus your age, for me this should be 171, you can read more from here.

Last year when I was tested on a treadmill I was given 174 as target. Few years ago I was given 190+ as that doctor said I should be given maximum heart rate at my age +10%. The lower target maybe due to the fact that I was consulting doctor for an alleged health problem hence a conservative rate to work to.

Books I read say that one should be doing workout with heart rate ceiling at 85%, for me this is between 145-153. I exceeded this last time I jogged for just more than 1km, perhaps I need to do more brisk walking to improve my cardiovascular fitness first.

[edited 16.09.2009] From here my MHR should be 175 and I have experienced MHR at 181 while tried to run fast.

Not easy

February 17, 2009

Douglas at last is practicing for exam, Grade 1 of course. I have the book from his teacher, who isn’t a brilliant one, and I bought the CD for it.

Naturally I’m Douglas’ real teacher while he practices. I found Grade 1 exam pieces are beautiful and are not easy if I want to play like the CD. May be I should also enroll for Grade 1 exam this year.

Moving to February

February 6, 2009

In January I have walked less than December. I walked only 14 mornings of total distance of 48.5km and one mid morning of 4k at Bowen Road. I have tried new and longer routes and have walked as much as 4.4km in one morning.

Now in February I’ll be jogging less but would try to walk faster with correct posture. I also need more time for proper warming up or even some stretching before sleep.

February is short and I will only resume next week so I’ll be hitting record low on distance.
