Slow down your Time Machine

March 8, 2011

From this post here you can use command line to adjust the backup frequency of the Time Machine, by default the Time Machine backs up your Mac every hour.

sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.backupd-auto StartInterval -int 10800

10800 above is an example for 3 hours, I used 4 hours, twice a day is good enough for me. I do regret a few times during the day what I said but I don’t type that fast.

The only drawback for this simple trick is that you still see the default 1 hour interval from the Time Machine Preference.
